A Night to Remember at Whixley Village Hall
There was a full house at the Village Hall on Friday 27th, as Tim, John and their splendid team of helpers delivered an evening to remember. Eighty guests sat down to a night of wine tasting, canapés and good-natured fun.
Each table of eight was presented with five wines for a blind tasting challenge, along with matched canapés and five questions about each one. Lively debate and plenty of banter followed as teams pooled their knowledge (and occasionally their imagination!) to agree on their answers. With a maximum score of 60 points available, performances varied widely — from 9 to an impressive 50 — but it’s fair to say that those at the lower end of the scoreboard enjoyed themselves just as much as the front-runners.
Midway through the tasting, the evening took an unexpected turn when none other than “Claudia” appeared on stage, ably assisted by “Dave”. The audience were treated to a special Whixley version of The Traitors, with six brave volunteers joining the action. After much suspicion and dramatic deliberation, Rob Dalby and Sally Scales were the final two standing — both revealed as Faithfuls — and each claimed a well-earned prize.
The evening concluded in suitably indulgent style with ice cream desserts, liqueurs, and a few final drinks at the bar.
A truly splendid Whixley evening. Many thanks to John and Dena Alderson, Tim and Judith Procter, and the many helpers who made it all possible. And if their parting words are anything to go by — “They’ll be back!” — we have plenty more to look forward to.
