Whixley WI were represented by Pauline Henley and Sue Bailey at the 2020 Yorkshire Federations Centenary Celebration at St Michael Le Belfrey, York on Saturday 29th February. We also met up with Liz Powley from Kirk & Green Hammerton WI.
This was a wonderful event, nearly all 400 Yorkshire WIs were represented. The National Federation of Women’s Institute Chair, Lynne Stubbings, gave an interesting speech; today we are the largest women’s organisation in the UK. There were representatives from all five Yorkshire Federations. With wonderful well-chosen songs and poems and of course ‘Jerusalem’, the event finished with an enthusiastic rendering of Tina Turner’s famous song so apt for the W.I. ‘Simply the Best’.
