A dozen hardy souls took to the football pitch last Sunday morning for the latest game in the walking football series and played 3 15-minute games.
In the first game Roger Amies-King opened the scoring with a Beckham-like half volley from the halfway line, but by half time the scores were levelled after a cracking shot by right wing Tony Ayre which nearly broke the net in the top corner. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The second game also ended in a 1-1 draw with Tony Ayre scoring for the greens and Carlos Benito levelling for the reds late on in the second half.
The third and deciding match seemed destined for a no-scoring draw until Nick Gibsone stepped up with the winner for the Cherry Reds in what proved to be the very last kick of the game.
Referee John Fisher was firm but fair in his decisions.
A lively village event, and thanks to Nick Gibsone for getting the initiative underway. If you’d like to give it a try contact Nick at nick.gibsone@btinternet.com.
