North Yorkshire East Federation
Marston Moor Group
The WI has flourished in Whixley since 1926 when 58 ladies got together and formed a WI branch in the village. The first meetings were held at Whixley Hall the home of Miss Tancred the President. When the Village Hall was built in 1935 the WI meetings were held there.
Meetings take place in the Village Hall on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.15pm. New members and visitors are always welcome. There are speakers, demonstrations, hands on crafts, outings, parties and through the Federation, workshops, trips abroad, chance to debate current issues and much, much more.
The WI offer a varied programme of speakers, events and special occasions mingled with more serious business when as the largest and most respected womens group in the country they get down to considering items of national importance and set about making their voice heard in Parliament. We are a forward thinking, diverse and vibrant organisation that enables women’s views to be heard.
The W.I. also encourages members to visit their own residential college – Denman College near Oxford where a programme of courses cover every subject under the sun and is open all year round.
New members/visitors are always welcome to come along to our meetings, you can contact any W.I. member who will be glad to accompany you if you prefer.
