Village Hall Year-End Update
As we approach the end of the Village Hall’s financial year on 30 September, we are pleased to report that the Hall is expected to finish the year in a broadly break-even position. In other words, we will end the year in approximately the same financial position as we started it.
This is particularly encouraging because, during the year, we completed the next stage of our “Building for the Future” plan, as outlined on the Village Hall website. The project included the construction of a new disabled access ramp, together with a new front door and porch, providing much safer and easier access for all visitors.
The project received a grant of £40.6k from the Levelling Up Fund towards a total cost of £50.8k. This meant that just over £10k had to be found from Village Hall funds. Thanks to the continued support of the community throughout the year, we were able to meet this contribution while still finishing the year in a financial position similar to that at the end of September 2025.
A big thank you to everyone who has supported the Village Hall over the past year. As many of you know, we organise a wide range of events throughout the year, as well as earning income from the many sports and social groups that regularly hire the Hall. Every booking, ticket purchase and donation helps us to maintain and improve this important community facility.
Events
Here are just some examples of the events we run in the year, all of which make valuable contributions:
- The Whixley Players Panto in January
- The regular Pop-Up Pub nights
- Wine Tasting night in March
- The Beer Festival in May
- The 5k/10k Run in October
- Quiz Nights in the Autumn
Big Ball Lottery
Our Big Ball Lottery continues to make a valuable contribution to Village Hall funds. During the year it raised more than £1,800 for the Hall and paid out over £700 in prizes.
There are still plenty of numbers available if you would like to join. Full details can be found on the Village Hall website page, where you can also purchase a number. The lottery board will also be available at the Hall during the Pop-Up Pub on 11 September, should you prefer to choose a number in person.
Film Club
We would also like to thank everyone who supports the Whixley Film Club. Throughout the year we show a varied programme of films, many of which are less well-known titles that are not often screened locally.
The Film Club year ends on 31 August, and renewal invitations have been sent to existing members. If you are already a member and have not yet renewed, but would like to continue for another year, you can do so through the Village Hall website.
Once again, thank you to everyone who has supported Whixley Village Hall during the past year. Your continued support enables us not only to keep the Hall financially sustainable, but also to continue investing in the nearly 100-year-old building so that it remains a welcoming and accessible community facility for many years to come.
