Welcome to your Village Hall’s Spring Newsletter and update on developments over the last year

Your Village Hall is managed by a small team of volunteers. Here are some of their achievements during the last twelve months:

1. Increased the number of clubs running in the Village Hall.

The Village Hall Management team has worked hard to increase the variety of activities offered. There are now weekly meetings of a Children’s Playgroup, fortnightly meetings of a Bridge Club, monthly meetings of a Film Club and open access to a Snooker Club!

2. Applied for funding to help start up new initiatives and to improve Village Hall facilities.

The team has successfully achieved a grant of £500 to repair the snooker table and to start up the Snooker Club. The team has been similarly successful in achieving a grant of £300 to start up a Children’s Playgroup.

In addition, the Village Hall has received £950 from Betty’s to replace the curtains in the Village Hall and has achieved an award from the National Lottery of £10,000 to improve the toilets and entrance foyer.

3. Organised Fundraising events to maintain the Village Hall and to help finance its improvement.

An impressive variety of events were organised throughout 2017, including: an excellent Easter Egg Extravagance, two quizzical Quizzes, a wonderful Which Wine Whixley? a bonkers Bonfire and fabulous Firework Display, a beautiful Bridge Afternoon with Afternoon Tea, frenetic 5k and 10k runs, an horrific Halloween Party, a superb Shopping Evening and a delightful December Decadance Dance. This hard work from the Management team and friends of Whixley Village Hall, together with your support means the Village Hall’s finances are in a healthy position.

 4. Increased membership of the Village Hall Committee.

Two new members, Ian McNeill and Kevin Haines, joined the Committee in March, and have both made significant improvements to our effectiveness. Ian is the Village Hall’s webmaster and Kevin the bookings clerk.

5. Improved the infrastructure for future developments.

Following a water leak to the mains water pipe, the Committee has chosen to have the mains pipe replaced with new and to be rerouted into the building to allow for future improvements to the toilet facilities.

6. Partially developed a 5 a side football pitch.

Unfortunately not everything has gone to plan! An area of the playing field has been fenced off, designated a “dog free” zone, levelled and seeded with sports grass to develop a junior football pitch. Sadly, the grass has grown unevenly and needs further attention before ready for play. Fingers crossed it should be fine this summer!

To learn more about your Village Hall Management Committee and its ambitious plans to improve the Village Hall facilities, come along to the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 13th March at 7:30pm in the Village Hall Community Lounge.
