The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded The Whixley QE 2 Commemoration Project (formerly the Jubiloo project) ten thousand pounds. This brings the provision of toilet and hospitality facilities in the Parish Church so much closer, and within the community’s reach during 2023.
The project will enable the community to make much better use of their historic church-building, as the lack of basic facilities has greatly restricted its appeal for wider community- use and has prevented its use by children’s groups which have had to use the village hall for all their meetings.
Enid Fisher, Project Trustee and churchwarden, says “For many years now, we have looked forward to the day when visitors and regular users of the church can relax, in the full knowledge that adequate toilet facilities for all ages from toddlers to the aged and infirm will be available. This vision is now nearer becoming a reality.”
Barry Smith, the Project Treasurer, in thanking the community and the National Lottery for their support says “We still need to raise the final £20k before we can physically start work on the enhancement of the hospitality and toilet facilities, and we continue to invite more local businesses, community groups, and individual members of the community to support the village’s QE2 Commemoration project by direct giving or by supporting the Committee’s fundraising activities in the village , or other imaginative fund-raising initiatives that will enable their historic church to become a much more sustainable community-asset for this and future generations”.
The Project Committee, under the chairmanship of Simon Gardner, are planning a Family Quiz Evening and Musical concert, details for which will be available, when finalised. Community support, as ever, will help towards the final push towards the £80k target.
