The village bonfire was held on November 2nd and, despite a thoroughly unpleasant day weather-wise, the rain held off during the fire lighting and fireworks. Steve Wright, Rick Illingworth and the team of helpers did a magnificent job in organising the event and building the fire on the Saturday morning, not to mention the clearing up that was done so efficiently on the Sunday. Many thanks to Steve and the team.
Thanks also to Dee Wright and the team of, mainly, ladies who prepared the mountains of food to provide warming hot dogs, chilli and so many varieties of cakes and pastries.
Thanks also to the bar team and the collectors who braved the cool night air, all of whom contributed to the success of the event.
Former parish Council chairman, Roger Bailey, commented
“Thanks to Steve for the best firework display yet and his amazing organisational skills in putting on this marvellous event every year. Thanks too to Dee and the wonderful catering team. Whixley Bonfire Night is a credit to Whixley and a well known attraction throughout the local area. To go to the Playing Field at 10.00ish the next morning to take part in the November Litter Pick and to find no sign of the bonfire remaining is just amazing”
